From what we’ve seen over the years, the differences between those numbers usually come down to a few things: how much experience the DJ has with weddings specifically, the quality of the sound and lighting they bring, whether they carry insurance and backup equipment, and how much planning they do with you before the day. At the top end — £1,200 and beyond — you’re usually looking at bigger productions, which really only makes sense for larger weddings.

How long you book for. Our standard wedding booking is five hours, and if you’d like the music to start earlier or run later, additional time is charged at £75 an hour.

Where your venue is. There are no additional travel charges for venues in Buckinghamshire or Hertfordshire — from Watford and St Albans up to Aylesbury and Milton Keynes, it’s all home turf. For weddings further afield, any travel charge is included clearly in your quote upfront.

Should I book the cheapest DJ if my budget is tight?

If budget is tight, our honest advice is to look at a midweek or off-peak date with an experienced DJ rather than the cheapest quote on a peak Saturday. Your DJ effectively runs your entire evening reception — it’s one of the few parts of the day where experience really shows.

How far in advance should I book to lock in a good price?

Peak Saturdays (May–September) in our diary book up 12–18 months ahead; off-peak dates often have availability 3–6 months out. In our experience prices don’t rise much as the date approaches — availability just disappears. Book early for choice, not for discounts. Is a DJ better value than a live band?

For a full evening, usually yes — and with a live band you’ll often need a DJ to fill the gaps anyway. A lovely middle ground we’ve seen work brilliantly is an acoustic singer for the drinks reception (roughly £300–£500) plus a DJ for the evening. Are wedding DJ prices VAT-inclusive?
