Kathy’s 70th Birthday Party
This weekend we were back behind the decks for a family we know well, celebrating Kathy’s 70th birthday at Eastcote Royal British Legion Club. We’ve DJ’d for Kathy’s family before and they’re always good fun, so we knew this one would be a great night.
The playlist mirrored the age range of the family and their guests: 50s and 60s rock & roll classics through the 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s, right up to modern R&B and chart. It was great to see everyone on the dance floor at some point through the evening — and a real mix of age groups enjoying the same music together.
They even requested the party dance song Chu Chu Wa, which we’d never played before — you really do learn something new every day. Judging by the dance floor, plenty of the guests knew every move.
Kathy’s husband made a lovely toast, and Kathy thanked everyone for coming — and her children for all their help putting the party together. Unusually, the evening finished with the whole room singing Happy Birthday. Kathy’s brother missed it — so we played it again, and he sang it to her personally on one of our mics. It’s details like that we love to create: small moments that become lasting memories.
From the end of the speeches to the last song there were always guests dancing — the floor was never empty. Guests came up to us with requests all through the night, and we worked every one of them in at the right moment — and at the end of the night Kathy and her family came to say thank you. They’ve already booked us for a 40th birthday party next year, which says it better than we ever could.
