Jane’s Surprise 60th at Stanbridge & Tilsworth Community Hall
On Sunday night we were at Stanbridge & Tilsworth Community Hall, in the villages just outside Leighton Buzzard, for Jane’s surprise 60th. This one was a little different for us: another DJ had the music, and we were there for the extras — the magic mirror photo booth, the 4ft light-up 60 numbers and mood lighting round the hall. It is a booking we get asked about more and more, and this night showed exactly why it works.
The light-up 60 went on the stage next to the DJ, under a balloon arch Jane’s family had put up, and it made the backdrop for every photo of the night. Stanbridge & Tilsworth Community Hall suits this kind of party well: a proper stage at one end for the DJ and the numbers, and a separate room off the hallway that the magic mirror could have to itself. That is our favourite way to run the booth at a village hall: the booth gets its own space and its own queue, the music carries on next door, and guests drift between the two all night.
Four hours at the mirror, three generations
Jane’s family had booked the mirror booth for four hours rather than the usual three, and they were right to — it was used steadily from the moment it opened to the moment it closed, by three generations of the same family.
Jane had a run of pictures with family and friends and one on her own, and she made full use of our special 60th word boards: “SIXTY AND SEXY”, “HELLO 60” and “SIXTY YEARS YOUNG” all got an outing. Other guests took a shine to “I’m the favourite guest” and “Girls just want to have fun” and posed with them all evening. The pink hats were as popular as they always are, and every pair of novelty glasses we own was worn at some point.
The two photos that mattered most were quieter ones: Jane with her children, and Jane with her mum and sister. Those are the prints that will be kept, and they are the reason we bring the mirror to parties like this.
The extras without the disco
You do not need to book our disco to have the mirror booth and the light-up numbers at your party. If you already have a DJ or a band, or the venue supplies the music, we will bring the booth, the numbers and the mood lighting on their own, set them up around whoever is playing, and run the booth for the evening — four hours if the guest list needs it.
